Crossing the Bridges of Fear: Facing Everest One Step at a Time

September 21, 20243 min read

Above: Me standing on a bridge during the journey, deep in thought about the fear and freedom that comes from reaching Everest Base Camp.

Standing on the swaying bridge high above a roaring river, my heart raced like never before. I had never seen scarier bridges in my life. I stopped for a moment and realized something—bridges are meant to be crossed. This bridge, this fear, wasn’t a barrier. It was part of the journey. And just like the climb, it demanded courage. You have to put your big boy pants on and take it one step at a time.

In the video I captured, you can hear me saying it out loud: “You just have to take it one step at a time. Whatever comes, comes.” It wasn’t just a statement about the bridge—it was about everything Everest was throwing at me. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown. I wasn’t here to summit the mountain; I was here to face myself.

Above: A video of me crossing the bridge, reflecting on fear and the simple truth that bridges are meant to be crossed, just like challenges in life.

Confronting Fear and Finding Freedom

Everest Base Camp wasn’t just a physical journey—it was an emotional one. I felt fear constantly. Not just the fear of falling or not making it, but the deeper fear that I wasn’t enough, that the things I hadn’t accomplished in my life were staring me down. But with every step on that bridge, with every step toward Base Camp, I started to realize something. It wasn’t about being fearless—it was about feeling the fear and moving forward anyway.

The real freedom came from letting go of the idea that I had to conquer the mountain. It wasn’t about the summit; it was about confronting the doubts that had been holding me back for so long. Every time I crossed another bridge, every time I took another step, I was proving to myself that I could do it.

Learning to Trust the Process

The key to crossing those terrifying bridges was trust. Trusting the bridge itself, trusting my footing, and most importantly, trusting myself. That same trust carried me through the entire trek to Base Camp. There was no way to control everything—the weather, the altitude, the way my body reacted to the strain. I had to let go of that control. Let Go Boss wasn’t just a mantra—it was a necessity.

There’s something about trusting the process that gives you freedom. Once I accepted that I couldn’t control every part of the journey, I felt lighter. My mind stopped racing with worst-case scenarios, and I started focusing on what I could control—the next step. Whether it was the bridge in front of me or the path to Base Camp, one step at a time was all I needed.

Conclusion: Freedom in Letting Go

Crossing those bridges on the way to Base Camp taught me a valuable lesson. It wasn’t about conquering fear—it was about moving forward despite it. That’s where the real freedom comes in. You don’t have to be fearless; you just have to trust yourself enough to take the next step.

At Base Camp, I didn’t feel like I had conquered Everest—but I did feel like I had conquered something much bigger: the doubts that had held me back. Let Go Boss wasn’t just the key to crossing the physical bridges—it was the key to crossing the mental ones, too.
